Touchuponastar Looks for Fourth Win in LA Classic
Louisiana-bred superstar Touchuponastar will look for his fourth consecutive win in the $150,000 Louisiana Champions Day Classic Stakes Dec. 13 at Fair Grounds Racecourse & Slots. Set-Hut's 6-year-old gelding by Star Guitar enters Saturday's race off back-to-back stakes wins at Delta Downs for trainer Jeff Delhomme. He will face up to five rivals in the 1 1/8-mile race, including Letmikefigureitout, who won the Jacob V. Morreale Memorial Stakes Nov. 22 at Fair Grounds. Letmikefigureitout is also entered in the Louisiana Champions Day Turf Stakes later on the card. He's Late Again and Sippin On Gin, who finished third and fourth, respectively, in the Jacob V. Morreale, separated only by a head, will square off again in the Classic Stakes unless He's Late Again's connections opt for his cross-entered spot in the Turf Stakes. Benoit and longshot Sonya Knows Better round out the field. Saturday's card features six other stakes races, with purses totaling $900,000. Secret Faith Looks For 10th Stakes Win in Ladies Sprint Norman Stables' Secret Faith will try to win her 10th stakes race in the $125,000 Louisiana Champions Day Ladies Sprint Stakes for trainer Jayde Gelner. The 3-year-old Aurelius Maximus filly has only lost once against state-bred rivals, when she was edged out by a head by Blue Fire in last year's Louisiana Champions Day Lassie Stakes. Stonestreet Stables and Peter Leidel's Blue Fire is among the four other entries in the 6-furlong race. Secret Faith was last seen winning the Delmar R. Caldwell Memorial Stakes Nov. 22 at Fair Grounds, and will face all four rivals she defeated that day. Runner-up Six String, third-place Beleout, and fifth-place Fast Flame all return; Blue Fire finished fourth in the Delmar R. Caldwell. Highly Wicked and Nora G Face Off in Ladies Turf Stakes Last year's Louisiana Champions Day Ladies Turf Stakes winner Highly Wicked will attempt to win the 1 1/16-mile race again Saturday while conceding 6-9 pounds to four others. The 5-year-old daughter of Wicked Strong finished fourth last time out in the John Valene Memorial Stakes after bobbling at the start and proving no threat in the closing stages. Rising Inflation won the race by 4 1/2 lengths over Norah G and Clearly a Test, who all will be back for more in the Ladies Turf Stakes. Coteau Grove Farms' Little Miss Curlin, who won her stakes debut Nov. 21 by 5 lengths in the Donovan L. Ferguson Memorial Stakes, will take on five opponents in the $125,000 Louisiana Champions Day Lassie Stakes for 2-year-old fillies. Nine juveniles will square off in the Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile Stakes. Three Diamonds Farm's Creole Chrome was made the 3-1 morning-line favorite of a 4 3/4-length debut win at Fair Grounds Nov. 20. Jacob V. Morreale Memorial Stakes winner Letmikefigureitout is the morning-line favorite for the Louisiana Champions Day Turf Stakes at 7-2. He is also entered in the Classic Stakes. Should he run in the turf, he will break from post 1. Whispering Oak Farm's Good and Stout, who finished second in the Jacob V. Morreale, will break from post 6. Single Malt Stable's Geaux Sugar will look to make it 2-for-2 in the Louisiana Champions Day Sprint Stakes. He won last year's edition of the race by 4 3/4 lengths. Not On Herb, who finished third last year behind Geaux Sugar, enters the race off back-to-back stakes wins for Crusaders Stable and trainer David Terre.
