First Foals Arrive for Auguste Rodin and City Of Troy
The first foals by Coolmore's group 1-winning 2-year-olds and Epsom Derby (G1) heroes Auguste Rodin (IRE) and City of Troy arrived Jan. 12. The Millennium Stud-owned Le Havre (IRE) mare Only In Dreams (FR) produced a bay filly by Auguste Rodin as her first foal at Haras de Pierrepont Jan. 12. Later on in the day at Coolmore, Camelot's listed-winning 2-year-old Ritournelle (FR) had her first foal, a bay colt by City Of Troy. Coolmore’s Eddie Fitzpatrick said, "He’s a very good first foal. A quality colt with scope and strength; a great start for both the mare and the stallion." Auguste Rodin won the Futurity Trophy (G1) as a juvenile and went on to dual Derby glory at 3, as well as the Irish Champion Stakes (G1) and Breeders' Cup Turf (G1T). The son of Deep Impact (JPN) produced from the top-class Galileo (IRE) mare Rhododendron (IRE)—a sister to another brilliant performer in Magical (IRE)—went on to claim the Prince of Wales's Stakes (G1) at 4. City of Troy was an unbeaten champion 2-year-old, culminating in a brilliant Dewhurst Stakes (G1) victory that term. He returned from the Two Thousand Guineas (G1) defeat to win the Derby, Eclipse (G1), and the Juddmonte International Stakes (G1), the last-named where he defeated subsequent Japan Cup (G1), King George (G1), and Champion Stakes (G1) hero Calandagan (IRE). The son of Justify is out of another group 1-winning Galileo mare in Fillies' Mile (G1) victress Together Forever (IRE).
