First Reported Foal a Filly for Wit
The first reported foal by Whispering Oaks Farm's Wit was born Jan. 6, the farm announced Jan. 14. The filly is out of the stakes-winning Quality Road mare Sashimi Blaster, owned by Whispering Oaks. "We were blessed by her arrival at 10:23 p.m. on January 6," said Carrol Castille, Whispering Oaks Farm owner. "She is everything you look for in a high-quality Thoroughbred prospect, and we are blessed that she and her dam are healthy and off to a great start. We look forward to watching her development here at the farm." Coteau Grove and Whispering Oaks acquired Wit, a son of Practical Joke, at the 2024 Keeneland April Horses of Racing Age Sale. Wit enjoyed a distinguished career on the racetrack under the guidance of Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher. A $575,000 Keeneland September Yearling Sale purchase by Repole Stable and St Elias Stable, Wit won his career debut at Belmont Park by 6 lengths and then triumphed by 8 lengths in the 2021 Sanford Stakes (G3) at Saratoga Race Course. Following this victory, Wit continued to compete at the highest level at 2, finishing second in the Hopeful Stakes (G1) and third in the Champagne Stakes (G1). He added to his achievements at 3 with victories in the Bay Shore Stakes (G3) on dirt and the Better Talk Now Stakes on turf. Additionally, Wit earned stakes placings in the 2022 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame Stakes (G2T), Bryan Station Stakes (G3T), and Hollywood Derby (G1T).
