Cool Jet Claims Steeplechase Eclipse Award
Cool Jet (IRE), winner of the 2025 Commonwealth Cup Stakes (NSA-1) at Great Meadow, took home the Eclipse Award for champion steeplechase horse Jan. 22 at the Eclipse Awards ceremony. Trained by Jack Fisher and owned by Riverdee Stable, Cool Jet, a now 10-year old gelding by Jet Away (GB), also earned wins in the Noel Laing Stakes (NSA-3) at Montpelier and the Mariann de Tejeda Memorial Stakes (NSA-3) at Foxfield. Cool Jet started his career 1-for-8, his lone victory in a 2-mile flat race in his native Ireland in 2021, before earning his first jumps victory Oct. 15, 2022, at Far Hills in his second North American start. He has had steady improvement since coming to the United States. From 14 starts, he has six wins, three seconds, and a third. Third and second, respectively, in his first two starts of the year before jumping into top-level company, he won the Commonwealth by 7 1/4 lengths, leading the race every step of the way for his first graded triumph. Ridden by jockey Bernie Dalton, Cool Jet was able to draw off easily after setting the tempo from the start. He followed with a 4 3/4-length win in the Mariann de Tejeda Memorial before taking the Noel Laing, where he was in front at the start and never looked back, opening up to again win by a comfortable 4 3/4 lengths. Cool Jet has earnings of $345,234 from a record of 7-3-1 in 21 starts.
