Weekend Stakes Runners Advance in NTRA Polls

An exciting trio of Kentucky Derby (G1) preps Feb. 28-March 1 left a strong impression on the national media who vote in the National Thoroughbred Racing Association's Top 3-Year-Old Poll. Five runners who performed well appeared in the top 10 March 3. The highest rated of those is Commandment, whose hard-fought Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) victory elevated him to No. 2 behind Risen Star Stakes (G2) winner Paladin. Additionally, the son of Into Mischief received seven of the 31 first-place votes. His rival in the Fountain of Youth, Chief Wallabee, made his first top 10 appearance in seventh following the neck defeat in his second start. Like Commandment, Class President aced his first two-turn test by a slim margin in the Rebel Stakes (G2). That performance lifted the son of Uncle Mo into fourth in the rankings, one spot above runner-up Silent Tactic. Gotham Stakes (G3) winner Iron Honor also drew attention for his 1-length win over a one-turn mile, debuting in a tie for ninth with Brant, who is entered March 7 in the San Felipe Stakes (G2). The Top Thoroughbred Poll also saw some new additions with Magnitude climbing to sixth after winning the Razorback Handicap (G3), placing him one spot behind Gulfstream Park Mile (G3) winner Knightsbridge. Reigning Horse of the Year Sovereignty maintains the No. 1 spot. See the full Week 6 Rankings
