Omaha Beach Filly Clocks Quarter-Mile in :20 4/5 at OBS
Consignor Tom McCrocklin sent out a filly (Hip 74) by Omaha Beach, who covered a quarter-mile in :20 4/5 to headline the first day of the under-tack show April 6 for the Ocala Breeders' Sales Spring 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale. McCrocklin purchased the WinStar-bred filly for $400,000 at last year's Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October Yearlings Sale out of the Taylor Made Sales Agency consignment. Hip 74 is the third foal of the More Than Ready mare Ready for Charm, who is out of the graded stakes-placed and graded stakes-producing mare Deb's Charm. The filly received a timely update Friday when Percy's Bar won the Ashland Stakes (G1) at Keeneland. Percy's Bar, who currently sits third on the Kentucky Oaks (G1) leaderboard, is out of Ready for Charm's half sister, Honestly Deb (Super Saver). "She's a very nice filly, always has been," McCrocklin said. "We got some grade 1 activity this weekend. She's a big, imposing, physical filly. She has a beautiful stride, and she galloped out really, really well. I couldn't be happier with her. "She's got the whole package, in my opinion," he continued. "She's got a great physical presence, and she's by a really good, up-and-coming stallion. The female family is very, very solid, and she showed up on breeze day, which you need to do or else you're going to get your feelings hurt." Three horses worked a quarter-mile in :21—Hip 113, a colt by Karakontie (JPN), consigned by Hoppel; Hip 121, a colt by Audible, consigned by Top Line Sales; and Hip 169, a filly by Street Sense, consigned by Cruzin' Thoroughbreds. Seventeen horses worked a session-topping furlong in :09 4/5. Hip 15, a colt by freshman sire Life is Good, who was one of many to breeze a furlong in :09 4/5, also received a timely update over the weekend when Speedway Stable's Potente ran second in the Santa Anita Derby (G1) behind So Happy. The colt is out of the Lemon Drop Kid mare Peggy May, a daughter of Eclipse Award champion grass mare and 2000 Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1T) winner Perfect Sting, who produced Potente's dam Sweet Sting (Awesome Again). Potente was purchased by Speedway Stable in 2024 for $2.4 million at Fasig-Tipton's The Saratoga Sale. In addition to his runner-up effort in the Santa Anita Derby, he had previously won the San Felipe Stakes (G2) last month by a head over Robusta, with So Happy another 2 1/4 lengths back in third. The under-tack show continues April 7 at 8 a.m. ET with Hips 204-406 slated to hit the track. Full results for the under-tack show can be found at obssales.com.
