Three Horses Clock Quarter-Mile in :20 4/5 at OBS
Day 2 of the under-tack show for the Ocala Breeders' Sales Spring 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale featured three horses tying for the fastest quarter-mile of the day going in :20 4/5. The proceedings were delayed two hours because of rain. Hip 262, a filly by Oscar Performance and consigned by Tom McCrocklin, was one of the three to clock the fastest quarter. She was bred by Headley and Nancy Bell and NATO, and is a half sister to multiple graded stakes winner Analyze It, who won just shy of $1 million during his racing career. "She's a filly from a family that we do care a lot about," Bell said of the filly. "We were fortunate to breed Analyze It, and he was just a nose from winning a grade 1. So, there has been some emotions there with the family. We think the world of Tom McCrocklin, and he says she's never shown him anything other than she's a lovely filly. We decided to go forward with her in this process, and then she goes and does what she did today. "She's a little bigger than (Analyze It) was, which is surprising because Point of Entry (sire of Analyze It) was a good-sized horse," Bell said. "But she's a very elegant filly. She's a beautiful mover. Tom has always liked her since Day 1. And Oscar Performance is a horse who has moved up his mares." Oscar Performance has continued to prove his merit as a stallion, most recently with a major win during the opening weekend at Keeneland, when Storm's Wake took the $490,625 Appalachian Stakes (G2T). A colt (Hip 246) by Jack Christopher, consigned by Doble J Equine Sales, and a colt (Hip 280) by Bee Jersey, consigned by Hoppel, agent, rounded out the co-fastest workers at a quarter-mile. A total of 18 juveniles worked a furlong in :09 4/5, including five horses sent out by Randy Miles. A filly (Hip 267) by Charlatan got the consignment off to a great start, followed by Hip 228, a colt by McKinzie; Hip 261, a colt by Uncle Mo, out of the winning, stakes-placed Tapit mare Sweet as Pie; Hip 382, a filly by Munnings; and Hip 386, a filly by Kantharos, who is a half sister to stakes winner Leslie's Loot. The under-tack show continues at 8 a.m. April 8 with Hips 407-610 set to hit the track. Full results for the under-tack show can be found here.
