No Show Sammy Jo Eyes First 2026 Win in Sheepshead Bay
Many eyes will be on the racing in Kentucky with it being Kentucky Derby (G1) weekend, but don't sleep on racing in New York. The headline contest May 1 is the $175,000 Sheepshead Bay Stakes (G3T) at Aqueduct Racetrack. The Sheepshead Bay features a field of seven fillies and mares 4 and up that will traverse 1 3/8 miles. No Show Sammy Jo (GB) is looking for her first win of the year after being reeled in late by Just Basking in the 1 3/8-mile The Very One Stakes (G3T) at Gulfstream Park. Having come up short a half-length from achieving her first graded win, the daughter of Lope de Vega (IRE) might be set up to end that drought Friday. The Graham Motion trainee is a big fan of the turf at the Big A, posting a 1-3-0 mark from four starts there. Trainer Miguel Clement brings two contenders to the starting gate. Kiamba (IRE) makes her first start in the United States after an eight-race career in France that saw her miss the board just twice. His other pupil, Unreasonable (IRE), is making her fifth U.S. start and fourth with Clement. She's faced group-level racing in Ireland, but has steadily improved since coming to the States. Completing the field are Bernietakescharge, Dona Clota (CHI), Lady Firefoot, and Storm Miami (IRE).
