Thought Process Becomes First G1 Winner For Collected

Memorial Day turned into a benchmark day in the stallion career of California-based Collected, as the state's leading sire tallied black-type victories on turf and dirt from two of his daughters, including his first win as a sire at the grade 1 level. In Southern California, Collected's 4-year-old filly Thought Process ran to her 7-5 odds as the race favorite and 124-pound co-highweight with a rousing effort under jockey Hector Berrios in the $301,500 Gamely Stakes (G1T) at 1 1/8 miles on the Santa Anita Park turf. Her 2 3/4-length triumph over seven rivals marked the Phil D'Amato trainee's first career grade 1 victory and fourth graded stakes win overall. Just one hour after Thought Process crossed the wire unimpeded on California grass, Collected's 5-year-old daughter Vive Veuve mastered the dirt in Texas with a late-rallying score in Lone Star Park's one-mile, $200,000 Ouija Board Distaff Stakes to obtain her second career stakes trophy. The 6-5 favorite was partnered with jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. for trainer Joe Sharp and owner Carl Moore Management. Out of group 3 winner Candy Store (IRE), by Lope de Vega (IRE), Vive Veuve has earned $725,855 from 20 starts. She was bred in Kentucky by Speedway Stables, which campaigned her grade 1-winning sire. Under the direction of Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert, Collected won eight of 15 starts on dirt and turf from 2 through 5, earning $2,975,500. His seven stakes victories at four racetracks include five graded scores in California and Kentucky. His signature win came in Del Mar's $1 million Pacific Classic Stakes (G1) in 2017, in which he capped a four-race win streak by defeating reigning champion 3-year-old male Arrogate. Later that same year at Del Mar, he was runner-up to 2017 Horse of the Year Gun Runner in the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1). Collected was retired to Airdrie Stud prior to the 2019 breeding season. He was relocated from Kentucky's Airdrie Stud to Rancho San Miguel last November. The 13-year-old son of City Zip has progeny earnings of more than $21 million from five crops of racing age. "It has been a banner day for our farm and for our wonderful new stallion Collected," Rancho San Miguel owner Tom Clark said. "We are proud to be affiliated with a sire of his magnitude, and grateful to the West Coast mare owners who have welcomed him with an inaugural book of nearly 100 mares." Collected stands this season for an advertised fee of $7,500, with late-season breeding specials available.
