Ag Bullet Aims for Repeat Victory in Jaipur Stakes
After being shipped in from her West Coast base to win the 2025 Jaipur Stakes (G1T) at Saratoga Race Course, Ag Bullet will try to join the impressive list of horses who have repeated in the prestigious turf sprint while carving out some history of her own. Ag Bullet will try to become the first female runner to win the Jaipur twice when she faces an expected nine males in the $500,000 turf sprint June 6 at Saratoga Race Course. Casa Creed is the Jaipur's most recent repeat winner, taking the race in 2021-22 at its usual home of Belmont Park where it's contested at 6 furlongs. Calvin Nguyen and Joey Tran's Ag Bullet won last year's Jaipur at its temporary Saratoga home, where it's contested at 5 1/2 furlongs. She's the 3-1 morning-line favorite in this year's edition back at the Spa. The other horses to win two editions of the Jaipur are Disco Partner (2017-18) and Ecclesiastic, who won it in nonconsecutive years (2005 and 07). As those three runners were based in the East, Ag Bullet also has the opportunity to become the first West Coast-based horse to win the Jaipur in consecutive years. To do so Ag Bullet will have to fire without the benefit of a prep race as this is the 6-year-old season debut for the daughter of Twirling Candy. Ag Bullet has not raced since closing out 2025 with a third-place finish in the Matriarch Stakes (G1T) going a mile at Del Mar. Before that effort, the Richard Baltas-trained runner finished second in the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (G1T) at Del Mar after winning the Ladies Turf Sprint Stakes (G2T) at Kentucky Downs and the Jaipur. It was an eventful offseason for Ag Bullet, who was offered at Fasig-Tipton's The November Sale, where she RNA'd after a top bid of $2.9 million. She was consigned by Mill Ridge Sales, agent. In last year's Jaipur, Ag Bullet stayed close to the lead early while racing second or third before taking command in the stretch to post a 2-length victory over My Boy Prince, who also is entered in this year's field. John Velazquez, who was aboard for last year's Jaipur win, is scheduled to ride Saturday. The Jaipur is a Breeders' Cup Challenge Series: Win and You're In race, awarding the winner a fees-paid berth in the Turf Sprint. Gary Barber's My Boy Prince already has four starts under his belt this season, including wins in the Turf Dash Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs and the Shakertown Stakes (G2T) at Keeneland. Jose Ortiz has been aboard for his past two starts and is scheduled to again ride the 5-year-old Cairo Prince gelding Saturday when he starts from the outside post. Other top runners entered in the Jaipur, scheduled as race 9 on Saturday's card with a 4:13 p.m. ET post time, include Litigation, a 4-year-old son of Twirling Candy who has won a pair of stakes races sprinting on the turf for owner/breeder Stone Farm and trainer Brian Lynch; and multiple graded/group stakes winner Reef Runner, a 5-year-old gelding by The Big Beast who is campaigned by Alex and JoAnn Lieblong and trained by David Fawkes. Litigation enters off a close third in the Twin Spires Turf Sprint Stakes (G2T) on the Kentucky Derby Day undercard at Churchill Downs while Reef Runner returns to the United States after a pair of races in the Middle East, including a narrow victory in the 1351 Turf Sprint (G2T) at King Abdulaziz Racecourse in Saudi Arabia.
