White Abarrio, winner of the 2023 Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) and earner of more than $8.4 million, will enter stud at Gainesway in 2027, according to a social media post June 11 by co-owner C2 Racing Stable and confirmed by the farm.
The 7-year-old son of Race Day is a seven-time graded stakes winner and a four-time grade 1 winner. Besides the Breeders' Cup Classic, he has been victorious in the 2025 Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes (G1), 2023 Whitney Stakes (G1), and 2022 Florida Derby (G1). To date, the striking nearly white gray or roan horse has compiled an 11-3-3 record from 26 career starts and earned $8,445,170.
"It is rare that a horse who comes to stud with such consistent high-class ability is a grandson of the two foremost breed-shaping stallions of the last decade, Tapit and Into Mischief," said Antony Beck of Gainesway. "We look forward to seeing what accomplishments White Abarrio can add to his already impressive résumé the rest of this year and are very excited for him to join the Gainesway stallion roster in 2027."
White Abarrio was a first-out winner at 2, taking his racing debut by 6 3/4 lengths. Early in his 3-year-old season, the grandson of Gainesway's perennial leading sire Tapit became one of the top colts of his generation with decisive victories in the Holy Bull Stakes (G3) and Florida Derby.
He maintained that brilliance as a 4-year-old with a 6 1/4-length victory in the Whitney, handing Cody's Wish the only defeat of his 2023 Horse of the Year campaign. He followed that up with the most important triumph of his career in the Breeders' Cup Classic at Santa Anita Park, where he defeated seven grade or group 1 winners.
White Abarrio kicked off his 2025 campaign with a dominant 6 1/4-length victory in the Pegasus World Cup in which he earned a 1" Ragozin Sheet figure for that performance, the fastest such number recorded in 2025.
"It means a great deal to our ownership group to have White Abarrio join Gainesway," said co-owners Clint Cornett and Gary Barber. "He has given us an incredible ride on the track, and we are excited to see him close out his racing career before beginning the next chapter at Gainesway."
Already in 2026, White Abarrio won the Oaklawn Handicap (G2) in April by 2 lengths. He defeated dual classic winner and defending Horse of the Year Sovereignty, as well as 2025 Preakness Stakes (G1) winner Journalism, and earned a career-best 111 Beyer Speed Figure for the effort, marking his sixth triple-digit Beyer in his last nine starts.
White Abarrio is out of the Into Mischief daughter Catching Diamonds, a half sister to multiple group winner Cool Cowboy (Kodiak Kowboy) and out of the immediate family of grade 1 winner Eclatant and grade 1-placed, graded stakes winner Mutasaabeq.
Saffie Joseph Jr. trains White Abarrio for owners Clint and Mark Cornett's C2 Racing Stable, Barber, and La Milagrosa Stable.
