Thundering On Looks to Maintain Form in Pretty Polly
Epsom Oaks (G1) heroine Thundering On (GB) will make her first appearance since that impressive classic victory in the June 27 Pretty Polly Stakes (G1) at the Curragh. Trained by Joseph O'Brien, the daughter of Frankel (GB) will be looking to maintain her near-perfect 3-year-old record this season, having finished a short-head second in her seasonal debut before winning a group 3 at Navan Racecourse and then blitzing the field at Epsom Downs Racecourse. O'Brien also saddles stablemate Nyra (GER), who finished runner-up in the Munster Oaks Stakes (G3) at Cork Racecourse last time, and outsider Wemightakedlongway (IRE). However, Cheveley Park Stud-owned Estrange (IRE) looks to be the favorite's toughest opponent. The mare has made just one start this year, winning a group 3 at Carlisle Racecourse for trainer David O'Meara. Wathnan Racing enjoyed a successful Royal Ascot with four winners, and it is represented by course-and-distance winner One Look (IRE) for trainer Paddy Twomey. Red Letter (GB) was runner-up to See The Fire (GB) in the Middleton Stakes (G2) at York Racecourse last time and has her third crack at group 1 company for owners Juddmonte. Venetian Lace (IRE), who finished last in the Oaks, represents trainer Charlie Johnston, while Aidan O'Brien is solely represented by Beautify (IRE), who has finished midfield in both the Nell Gwyn Stakes (G3) and Irish One Thousand Guineas (G1) this season. Amo Racing's Carolina Jetstream (GB) and Qilin Queen (IRE) for Ed Walker, who sent out Almaqam (GB) to land last month's Gold Cup (G1) at the Curragh, complete the field.
