McAnally Griffin Supports TCA Grants With $50,000 Gift
California-based Thoroughbred owner and breeder, Shannon McAnally Griffin, niece of Hall of Fame Trainer Ronald McAnally, has made a leadership gift of $50,000 to Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA) in support of the organization's 2026 grantmaking. TCA provides annual grants to approved charities working to offer health and human services to backstretch and farm workers and provide Thoroughbred aftercare, including Thoroughbred incentive, equine-assisted therapy, and on-track placement programs. "The McAnallys have been incredibly blessed with success because of horse racing," said Griffin. "I'm privileged to give to TCA to help Thoroughbreds and the people who care for them." TCA's annual goal is to grant $1 million to vetted and impactful organizations that help provide safe transitions for racehorses and provide assistance for industry workers in need; however, additional funds are still needed to reach that grantmaking goal. "When I learned that TCA wasn't quite to their annual goal yet, I wanted to do my part to help get them closer," continued Griffin. "Gallop for Good really demonstrated just how many charities are working to provide aftercare for Thoroughbreds, and I wanted to take this opportunity to help. Please join me in supporting TCA and the nearly 100 charities that receive a TCA grant." Griffin is a California native with Kentucky roots. Her family migrated from Kentucky in the mid-twentieth century to make their home on the Southern California racing circuit. Her father, Joseph McAnally, was a former HBPA-CA Division executive and founder of the California Thoroughbred Horsemen's Foundation. Her uncles are Hall of Fame Trainer Ronald McAnally and Robert McAnally, a former HBPA-CA Division executive. Shannon is invested in the McAnally family's racing legacy as part-owner of Ronald and Debbie McAnally's breeding and racing stock. With over fifty years in the saddle, Shannon is still a passionate equestrian, riding and showing hunter horses in Southern California. TCA's grants are approved by the board of directors at a meeting in early August. TCA's mission is to fund and facilitate the support of Thoroughbreds and the people who care for them. TCA distributes grants to several categories of Thoroughbred-related nonprofits, including rehabilitation, retraining, rehoming and retirement organizations; backstretch and farm employee programs; equine-assisted therapy programs; and research organizations. In 2025, TCA granted over $1.1 million to 98 organizations. Since its inception in 1990, TCA has granted over $28 million to more than 200 charities. TCA also administers the Horses First Fund, founded by LNJ Foxwoods in 2016, to assist Thoroughbreds and their caretakers in need of emergency aid. TCA is the charitable arm of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA).
