Dual grade 3 winner and freshman sire Scalding was represented by his first winner Aug. 9 when Induction won the fifth race at Colonial Downs.
A homebred for Pin Oak Stud, who stood Scalding for a private fee in 2026, Induction came from off the pace in a 10-horse field with Jorge Ruiz in the saddle, rallying to take command in the stretch and separate for a 2-length win. Making his debut for trainer Graham Motion, the bay colt completed a mile on turf in 1:37.45.
Induction is out of the stakes-placed Constitution mare Right to Freedom.
Bred by Godolphin and Cobalt Investments, Scalding was a $400,000 purchase out of the Bluewater Sales consignment in 2019 at Fasig-Tipton's The Saratoga Sale. Racing for Grandview Equine, Cheyenne Stables, and LNJ Foxwoods, he broke his maiden in his third career start. Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey would build on that win as it kicked off a four-race win streak in 2022 that included wins in the Challenger Stakes (G3) at Tampa Bay Downs and Ben Ali Stakes (G3) at Keeneland.
Scalding would close his career running third in the Blame Stakes at Churchill Downs, retiring with a record of 4-1-1 from seven starts for earnings of $325,800.
