Deterministic to Stand at Lane's End Upon Retirement

Four-time grade 1-winning turf horse Deterministic will enter stud at Lane's End Farm in Central Kentucky following the conclusion of his racing career, the farm announced Aug. 12. He will join a distinguished roster that includes his sire, Liam's Map. St. Elias Stable, Ken Langone, Steven Duncker, and Vicarage Stable's Deterministic has emerged as one of North America's leading turf milers over the past two years, winning consecutive runnings of the 1 1/4-mile Manhattan Stakes (G1T) and 1-mile Fourstardave Stakes (G1T), both at Saratoga Race Course in 2025-26. The 5-year-old horse is riding a six-race win streak going back to May 2025, all with Kendrick Carmouche in the saddle. He has career earnings of $3,047,265. Trained initially by Christophe Clement and then, upon his death, by his son Miguel, Deterministic became a BloodHorse Maiden Watch Hot Prospect after a debut maiden win on dirt at Saratoga at 2 in 2023. Sidelined for the remainder of the year, he opened his 3-year-old season with a victory in the 2024 Gotham Stakes (G3) at Aqueduct Racetrack when stretched out to a mile. After an eighth-place finish in the Wood Memorial Stakes (G2) and a fifth in the Peter Pan Stakes (G3), his connections transferred him to the grass. He won the New Kent County Virginia Derby (G3T) at Colonial Downs and the Hill Prince Stakes (G3T) at Aqueduct on turf that season. He rose to even greater heights in 2025-26, first recording a 4 1/2-length triumph in the Fort Marcy Stakes (G2T) in May 2025. Then came his initial victory in the Manhattan Stakes and the Fourstardave Stakes. He again took the 2026 Fort Marcy and the Manhattan during the Belmont Stakes Festival. Then in his most recent start in the Aug. 8 Fourstardave, he came from just off the pace to defeat Mi Bago by 1 1/2 lengths, completing a mile in 1:35.07 during a rainstorm. That race earned him an 118 Equibase Speed Figure and a 104 Beyer Speed Figure. The consecutive Manhattan-Fourstardave doubles made Deterministic the first horse to win both races in the same year in two consecutive seasons. "The journey with Deterministic has been very special to say the least, sharing this with the Clement family has meant so much to us," St. Elias' Stables Vinnie Viola said in a release. "Campaigning a son of one of our stable stars, Liam's Map, who was such a remarkable racehorse and now a top sire, it seems only fitting Deterministic join him at Lane's End." Liam's Map, who won the 2015 Woodward Stakes (G1) on dirt, stood this season at Lane's End for $50,000. He currently ranks eighth in the general sire list by progeny earnings, powered by the success of Deterministic, Burnham Square, and Napoleon Solo. Bred in Kentucky by Hinkle Farms, Deterministic was purchased for $625,000 by agent Michael Wallace for St. Elias Stable at the 2022 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. He is out of the winning Speightstown mare Giulio's Jewel, who died in 2022. His late second dam, the Tiznow mare Acadiana, is related to numerous graded stakes winners. "Anytime a son of Liam's Map ascends to the grade 1 level, especially with the speed to win two grade 1s at a mile, it catches our attention," Lane's End's Bill Farish added in the release. "Deterministic being a debut winner at 2, a graded winner on the dirt and a multiple grade 1 winner, including two wins in the Fourstardave Stakes—one of the most prestigious turf mile races in North America—makes him a perfect fit for the versatile roster that we have strived to develop at Lane's End."
