Gas Me Up Looks for Back-to-Back Wins in King Edward

Poulin in O T looks for first graded stakes win in Bold Venture Stakes (G3).

Gas Me Up wins the 2025 King Edward Stakes at Woodbine

Gas Me Up wins the 2025 King Edward Stakes at Woodbine

Michael Burns

Last year's King Edward Stakes (G2T) winner Gas Me Up will look for his second consecutive win in the $200,000 1-mile race over the inner turf Aug. 15 at Woodbine, where he will face a field of five.

Woodbine's premier trainer Kevin Attard sends out the 6-year-old son of Hard Spun , who enters the race fresh off a five-month layoff. His last appearance yielded a fourth-place finish in the Frank E. Kilroe Mile Stakes (G2T) at Santa Anita Park

He will take on a familiar face again—last year's King Edward runner-up Wyoming Bill, who is in search of his first graded stakes victory.

"He's a very nice horse," said his trainer Catherine Day Phillips. "He's looking forward to running at a little added distance from his last race. He has a little more room to work with this time, which should suit him quite well."

Wyoming Bill was fifth last time out in the 7 1/2-furlong Connaught Cup Stakes (G2T) behind winning G T Five Hundred, the Brendan Walsh-trained runner-up Irish Aces, and fourth-place finisher Piper's Factor, all three of whom he will face Saturday. G T Five Hundred is cross-entered in the Bold Venture Stakes (G3T).

"We're just hoping he can put it all together and get it done at the stakes level," Phillips said. "He's a pretty cool dude."

Florida-bred Seminole Chief, winner of the Jonathan B. Schuster Memorial Stakes at Horseshoe Indianapolis in his last start, rounds out the field.

Poulin in O T Seeks Graded Win in Bold Venture

Multiple stakes winner Poulin in O T looks to step up and gain his first graded stakes victory in the $175,000 Bold Venture Stakes (G3). The son of Reload  enters the 6 1/2-furlong race on the all-weather main track in top form.

Poulin in O T secured his first stakes win since 2023 with a 1-length victory in the Pink Lloyd Stakes last month. He was sidelined last May because of issues in his ankles that required two surgeries. The patience paid off for trainer and owner Steven Owens, who said the hard-knocking gelding is ready for the test.

"He has had two ankle surgeries," Owens said. "He's at the top of his game, fitness-wise. His ankles are not an issue like they had been last year and the year before."

Poulin in O T is cross-entered in the Vice Regent Stakes Aug. 16.

Multiple graded stakes-placed Western Whirl will search for his first win of 2026, after show and runner-up finishes in two graded stakes to start the year.

Proctor Street Takes on Eponine in Canadian

Patricia Moseley's multiple graded stakes-placed homebred Proctor Street appears to have the class advantage in the $200,000 Canadian Stakes (G2T), but will have to take on recent Saratoga Race Course allowance winner Eponine.

Repole Stable's Eponine secured her first stakes win in the United States July 4 since moving stateside last year. The daughter of Tamayuz was second by a neck in an allowance race a month earlier at the Spa, and finished third in last year's Lake Placid Stakes (G2T) to May Day Ready. She appears ready to take a step forward Saturday in the 1 1/16-mile race over the inner turf.
