Knightsbridge to Head West for Pacific Classic

Godolphin's Knightsbridge, a 10 1/4-length winner of the Monmouth Cup Stakes (G3) last time out, is on track for the Pacific Classic Stakes (G1) Aug. 22 at Del Mar. The race at Monmouth Park was over 1 1/8 miles, his first start in a route around two turns. He'll have to stretch out his speed another eighth in the Pacific Classic, but Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott is not concerned. "We knew he was pretty good," Mott said. "Obviously, he's progressed as time has gone on. He's done a little more each time. The last one was a good one, so we'll see." There were questions as to whether or not Knightsbridge could get the mile and an eighth in the Monmouth Cup, but he promptly silenced any doubters. "He'll breeze and then fly out on Saturday," Mott said of Knightsbridge's itinerary this week. John Sadler plans to run Full Serrano (ARG) in the race and possibly The Goat (CHI). Richard Baltas is still on the fence about British Isles, the Santa Anita Handicap (G1) winner. "He'll work tomorrow," Baltas stated. "It looks like we have a lot of horses shipping in for the race so it's not an easy race. Even though Nysos isn't in there and neither is Journalism (both retired), there are some other horses coming out here who are pretty good. I don't know if we're going to go. We might wait." Subsanador (ARG), Finger (JPN), Hit Show, Forged Steel, and Navajo Warrior are other likely starters.
