The future stars of Southwest racing take center stage Aug. 25 as the Texas Summer Yearling Sale at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas. The one-day auction is packed with 153 yearlings, including progeny of several exciting young sires, including Jackie's Warrior , who currently ranks fourth among freshman sires of 2-year-olds by progeny earnings.
Following the yearling session, the sale will feature a Horses of Racing Age session totaling 11 horses, highlighted by proven stakes winners Blingster and TX Code, both consigned by Colin Brennan Bloodstock at Highlander Training Center, agent.
Colin Brennan took over Highlander Training Center, near Sulphur Springs, Texas, as director of sales and trainer following the retirement of the late Al Pike in April 2025. Brennan brings a consignment of 27 yearlings to the sale, including a filly (Hip 153) by Cyberknife , who is out of a five-time stakes winner, and a Kentucky-bred colt (Hip 31) by Vekoma , out of the winning Tizway mare, Tizway That Way.
Vinery Sales also brings a large consignment of 28 yearlings to the sale, headed by Hip 138, a filly by 2023 Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Mage , out of a full sister to graded stakes winner Sonneteer.
The Texas Thoroughbred Association board of directors has incentivized the future of Texas racing by approving a pair of new sales-restricted $100,000 stakes races for 2-year-olds that will be held in partnership with Lone Star Park during the 2027 spring and summer meet.
Last year's sale saw 196 horses change hands for gross receipts of $2,963,500, including private sales. The average price was $15,120, with a median of $7,000. A colt by Aurelius Maximus topped the sale selling for $95,000 to Terry Stephens.
As of Monday evening, the TTA had listed 10 outs. The sale begins at 11:00 a.m. CT Tuesday.
