Outside Post for Supercharger in Old Dominion Derby

C R K Stable's Supercharger will try to add to an already breakthrough meeting at Colonial Downs, and strong 3-year-old season overall, when the Constitution colt faces an expected 13 other sophomores in the $500,000 Old Dominion Derby (G3T) Sept. 7. Trained by Kentucky Derby (G1)-winner Cherie DeVaux, Supercharger will break from the outside in the large field set for Monday's 1 1/8-mile test. Jockey Axel Concepcion will be aboard for the first time. Supercharger opened last month in style at Colonial, rallying from seventh to register a half-length victory over other 3-year-olds in the 1 1/16-mile Secretariat Stakes (G2) in his stakes debut. That victory extended his win streak to three as he entered off a maiden win and allowance score going two turns on the Churchill Downs turf in May and June. The field also features last year's Grey Stakes (G3) winner, The Big Con (GB), who figures to improve after an Aug. 8 seasonal debut in the Saratoga Derby Stakes (G1T) where the son of Dark Angel (IRE) finished fifth. Also on Monday's card, 3-year-old fillies will try the same 1 1/8-mile distance on the turf in the $250,000 Old Dominion Oaks, where grade 2 winner Storm's Wake enters off a fourth-place finish in the Belmont Oaks Stakes (G1T) July 4 at Saratoga Race Course. Trained by Brian Lynch for owner-breeder William Werner, the son of Oscar Performance rallied from 10th to win the Appalachian Stakes (G2T) in April at Keeneland.
