Group 1-Winning Sprinter Powerful Glory Retired

Powerful Glory (IRE), last year's 200-1 winner of the British Champions Sprint Stakes (G1), has been retired from racing. The son of Cotai Glory (GB) ran out a 5 1/2-length winner on his debut at 2 when capturing a Pontefract maiden, and he made it 2-for-2 that season with success in the Mill Reef Stakes (G2) at Newbury Racecourse. Trained by Richard Fahey and then by Fahey and his son, Peter, Powerful Glory landed his career highlight when downing the likes of Lazzat (FR) and No Half Measures (GB) in the British Champions Sprint Stakes at Ascot Racecourse on Champions day. He had been sent off an outsider, but came home with a flourish under Jamie Spencer to stun his rivals and the racing public. Bred by Con Marnane, the colt sold to Tally-Ho Stud for 37,000 guineas at the 2022 Tattersalls December Foal Sale. He went on to make £190,000 to Blandford Bloodstock at the Goffs UK Breeze-Up Sale in 2024. Powerful Glory is the second foal out of the Kodiac (GB) mare Wouldntitbelovely and comes from a family packed with speed. Notable names in his pedigree include 2013 Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp (G1) and fellow British Champions Sprint Stakes winner Maarek, with Ardad (IRE) also featuring in his dam line. Stud plans for the 4-year-old have yet to be confirmed.
