Qatar Racing Buys $1M Repole-Bred Into Mischief Colt

A colt by Into Mischief became the first seven-figure horse of the fifth session of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale Sept. 19 when Qatar Racing purchased him for $1 million. Agent Fergus Galvin, USA racing manager for Qatar Racing, signed for the purchase. "We've been trying all week on these high-end Into Mischiefs," Galvin said. "I'd only seen him for the first time this morning, and I called Sheikh Fahad right away and said, 'This is the one.' Really nice type, lovely young mare, a Curlin mare, just a lovely colt." When asked if it was love at first sight, Galvin responded: "It kind of was. I'd only seen him for the first time this morning. He took my memory back to earlier in the week about the good Into Mischiefs and he stacked up very well with them." Galvin said he expected to stretch to seven figures for the colt. Hip 1250 became the 11th seven-figure horse of the September sale for Into Mischief. The Repole Stable-bred bay, consigned by Claiborne Farm as Hip 1250, is the first foal out of the Curlin mare Weather Delay, who ran fifth in her one start for Repole and Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher. West Bloodstock purchased her for Repole at the 2022 Keeneland September sale for $500,000. He is bred on the same cross as Repole Stable and Robert and Lawana Low's Arkansas Derby (G1) winner and Kentucky Derby (G1) runner-up Renegade. Hip 1250's second dam is American Gal, a daughter of Concord Point who won the 2017 Test Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course for owner Kaleem Shah and trainer Simon Callaghan. "He's a beautiful horse, he's bred the right way, he comes from a deep family," said Jacob West, stallion seasons and bloodstock manager for Claiborne Farm. "Mike Repole bred him, and just happy to be able to sell a horse like that for him. "It's very strong (market) for the right horses that everybody falls in love with. That's pretty evident by a Book 3 horse bringing a million dollars here." Into Mischief, the reigning general sire leader over the past seven years, is currently second by progeny earnings in 2026. He stood earlier this breeding season for an advertised fee of $250,000 at Spendthrift Farm near Lexington.
