Canterbury Park Concludes Season With Gains

Canterbury Park's 32nd season of live racing concluded Saturday showing gains in attendance and on-track wagering during the 50-day meet. Mac Robertson won his 17th thoroughbred training title finishing the meet with 49 wins and $995,567 in purse earnings. Manuel Americano, riding this season for the first time at the Shakopee, Minn. racetrack, was the leading rider with 76 wins and $1,490,821 in purses. Americano won two races Saturday. John Mentz of Lakeville was leading owner with 27 winners from a meet leading 106 starts. Daily attendance averaged 5,234, an increase of 9% over 2025. Daily average handle was up 5%. Frosty View was voted Horse of the Meet for the second consecutive season. The 5-year-old Minnesota bred finished the meet winning three of five starts including the Brooks Fields Mile and the Ralph Strangis Allowance. Frosty View is owned by Charlene Gabler and is trained by Joel Berndt. Frosty View was also voted Older Horse and Grass Horse of the Meet. Berndt trained Sprinter of the Meet Street Warrior and the Three-Year-Old of the Meet That Type Ofa Deal, who won the final race of season, as well. Wagering handle on Saturday for the nine-race card was $1,209,106. Canterbury Park officials expect to run a similar schedule in 2027 and will submit a dates application to the Minnesota Racing Commission later this Fall.
