DeVaux Starts Foundation to Support Education, TBreds
Building on the success of this year's Triple Crown, as Golden Tempo raced to victory in the Kentucky Derby (G1) and Belmont Stakes (G1), trainer Cherie DeVaux has established a non-profit organization with the goal of giving back to the industry. DeVaux announced on social media Oct. 11 that The Cherie DeVaux Foundation received 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, with its mission being to provide educational scholarships to students pursuing careers in the equine industry and to support organizations dedicated to rescuing and protecting at-risk Thoroughbreds. DeVaux expressed thanks to Keith Rowley for helping establish the foundation. "I have never measured my success in wins and losses. I have always said that I would consider myself truly successful when I was in a position to give back in a meaningful way," DeVaux said in the social media post. "This passion project began long before our historic Kentucky Derby victory, and I am beyond grateful to now have the opportunity to bring this dream to life." The Cherie DeVaux Foundation will hold its inaugural fundraiser, "Golden Night at Chophouse 285," Dec. 3 in Englewood, Fla. Funds raised will directly support scholarships for Lemon Bay High School graduates. "Horses have given me more than I could have ever imagined, and I believe with that privilege comes a responsibility to give back," DeVaux said. "Winning the Kentucky Derby was a dream realized. Having the opportunity to turn that success into something meaningful for others is an even greater reward. "This is what success means to me."
