Full Sister to BC Hopeful Gaudreau Up For Grabs

During the third day of Fasig-Tipton's Kentucky October Yearling Sale Oct. 21, buyers will have the opportunity to buy a full sister to top juvenile and Breeders' Cup contender Gaudreau. The Louisiana-bred Nyquist filly will be consigned as Hip 996 by Gainesway, agent. Fueled by unwavering confidence in Gaudreau, Andrew Cary, adviser for Keith and Ginger Myers' Coteau Grove Farms, explained it held onto the filly in anticipation of an update from her standout brother. "We had heard all year that he (Gaudreau) had talent," Cary said. "He won first time out on Whitney day, and ran a huge race in his second start. This (sale) was kind of the target since June for her." Gaudreau went through the ring at last year's October sale, selling for $220,000 to Bradley Thoroughbreds, agent. Cary said the filly is a lot like Gaudreau, as they both favor their sire. "They look like what those good Nyquists do," he said. "The size, shape, the way they're made. Nyquist throws tremendous power, athleticism, and scope. If you put her picture next to a picture of Nyquist as a yearling, they look very similar. "She was an exceptional weanling. She's been one of the top horses in our crop the whole way along. She's always been special." Gaudreau was recently second in the Champagne Stakes (G1) to U. S. S. Valor, stamping himself as a top contender for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1). Although Gaudreau ran second to U. S. S. Valor last out, he beat the colt in his previous race, when he won a loaded maiden special weight race on Whitney Stakes (G1) weekend at Saratoga Race Course. Gaudreau finished a half-length ahead of Coach Pope, who was recently second in the Breeders' Futurity Stakes (G1). U. S. S. Valor was a neck behind in third. With U. S. S. Valor skipping the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, Gaudreau will be among the top choices. Hip 996 is out of the Congrats mare Free Cover, whom Cary acquired for $260,000 on behalf of Coteau Grove at the 2020 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale while she was carrying a foal by Nyquist. Coteau Grove kept the foal, who was named Undercover Girl, and she is now a broodmare on its farm in Louisiana. The Myerses, who established Coteau Grove in 2008, had their best year overall in 2025, finishing 17th nationally among breeders, with 78 wins totaling $3,738,553. They were named a finalist for National Breeder of the Year for the first time for that season. Coteau Grove Farms hopes to have another shot at Breeders' Cup glory. Less than a week from now, should the Chad Brown trainee Gaudreau be entered in the Juvenile, he will carry the farm's hopes, aiming to improve on the respectable back-to-back fourth-place finishes by its homebred Tumbarumba in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1). "That's the ultimate, right?" Cary said about having a horse run in the Breeders' Cup. "To be able to compete with the best in the world. Just to be on that stage with the best of the best is what it's all about." On Wednesday, buyers will have the chance to acquire a full sister to a live Breeders' Cup contender with immense upside. Should she replicate her brother's success on the track, her racing career will only enhance her long-term residual value as a broodmare.
