Magnitude Scratched From Breeders' Cup Classic
Winchell Thoroughbreds' Dubai World Cup (G1) and Stephen Foster Stakes (G1) winner Magnitude has been scratched from the $7 million Breeders' Cup Classic (G1), according to a post from the Breeders' Cup on X. Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen told Daily Racing Form's David Grening that a positron emission tomography scan "revealed some disruption in the suspensory fibers of his left fore." Asmussen had not yet responded to BloodHorse's request for comment at the time of this posting. Magnitude was set to make his first start since finishing sixth in the Whitney Stakes (G1) and had been training at Keeneland since September. His scratch leaves the Classic with a field of seven headlined by Forever Young (JPN) and Sovereignty, both horses the son of Not This Time defeated earlier this year. Magnitude is set to stand the 2027 season at Coolmore America's Ashford Stud, and the Versailles, Ky., farm confirmed his retirement following the scratch. He retires with a record of 8-2-1 from 15 starts with two grade 1 wins and three additional graded wins for $9,626,365 in earnings.
