Volatile's Stud Fee Set at $17,500 for 2027 Season
Three Chimneys Farm has increased the 2027 stud fee for Volatile to $17,500, following a breakthrough year in the sales ring and at the racetrack, which included strong performances by his progeny in the Breeders' Cup World Championships at Keeneland. Three-time stakes winner Foie Gras, an earner of $867,176, finished second to likely champion Ways and Means in the $1 million Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1). Later that afternoon, T O Elvis returned stateside for an encore at the highest level. He won the $2 million Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) over heavy favorite Englishman with a performance that earned a 112 Beyer Speed Figure and a 119 Equibase Speed Figure. "Volatile is coming off an outstanding Breeders' Cup weekend, where T O Elvis won the Breeders' Cup Sprint, earning a 112 Beyer Speed Figure—the highest of any runner at the Breeders' Cup. The win helped solidify his position as a leading contender for Eclipse champion sprinter," said Rebecca Nicholson, Three Chimneys' director of stallion nominations. "His daughter Foie Gras also delivered an impressive runner-up performance in the Filly and Mare Sprint." Nicholson also noted Volatile's commercial success this year, with yearlings selling for up to $525,000 and his 2-year-olds selling for as much as $650,000. Foie Gras also sold for $1.35 million during the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale. "He offers exceptional value to breeders seeking a proven sire with commercial appeal," Nicholson said. T O Elvis got the momentum started at the track for Volatile when he captured the Churchill Downs Stakes (G1) by 3 1/4 lengths, earning a 2 3/4 Ragozin figure, which was the fastest performance during the Kentucky Derby (G1) weekend. Volatile has sired eight black-type stakes winners this year that also include 3-year-old Igniter, who captured the $386,000 Ellis Park Derby by 4 lengths, and Great White, Creole Chrome, Come Candela, Killa Sally, and Outmatch. Overall, Volatile has sired four graded stakes winners with Speed King, Tip Top Thomas, and Fast Market joining T O Elvis. Volatile's commercial success started at the Fasig-Tipton May Midlantic 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale where his son Mi Explosivo sold for $650,000 to agent Donato Lanni on behalf of Zedan Racing. Later, during the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, one of his daughters, named Capriciousness, sold for $525,000 to FMQ Stables and Three Chimneys. So far at the Keeneland November sale, his top weanling brought $295,000 from Paradise Farm. Beau Lane Bloodstock consigned the weanling colt, which was the fourth-highest seller among colts during the session. A grade 1-winning son of Violence, Volatile is available for inspection this week during Three Chimneys Farm's open house, held daily from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. through Nov. 8.
