The HBA Training Sale of 2-year-olds took place May 24, with an American-bred filly by Runhappy taking top honors after selling for ¥42 million (US$330,120) to the prominent owner Shigeru Morinaka.
The filly out of Distinguishable was bred in Kentucky by Kathryn Nikkel, Old Dominion, and Sanford Robertson, and imported to Japan last year. Offered as Hip 131 by Etretat Farm, she clocked the co-fastest time over one furlong, going in :10.7 during the under tack show conducted May 23 on the dirt track at Sapporo Racecourse.
