International bloodstock agent James Delahooke, known for his long association with Juddmonte, died Sept. 7 in the United Kingdom after reportedly having a heart attack. He was 77.

Among the many elite horses he selected during his time at Juddmonte was 1986 Trusthouse Forte Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (G1) winner Dancing Brave, whom he purchased for $200,000 as a yearling at Fasig-Tipton in 1984. Dancing Brave captured eight of 10 starts and earned more than $1.4 million.

In recent years, the well-respected Delahooke continued to select horses for prominent owners, including for U.S. clients such as celebrity chef Bobby Flay.

Delahooke was a regular at the September Yearling Sale at Keeneland, and before his sudden passing he had been expected to attend this year's sale.

An outpouring of support from friends and colleagues quickly circulated online. Pedigree consultant Bill Oppenheim tweeted that Delahooke "was right at the top of the list" of the great horsemen he has encountered. Bloodstock agent Jamie Lloyd tweeted that Delahooke was a "great mentor and friend who will be truly missed."

In addition to his work in bloodstock, Delahooke garnered attention for throwing his support behind the Water, Hay, Oats Alliance in 2017.

Racing Post reported that Delahooke is survived by wife, Angie, brothers Matthew and Tom, children Amber, Rorie, Holly, and Eve, and grandchildren. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course, the publication added.
