Millionaire Get Smokin, a six-time stakes winner, has been retired at the age of 8. The son of Get Stormy, distinguished on the track for his bullish, front-running tactics, will be sent to trainer Mark Casse's farm near Ocala, Fla., for his retirement.

The gelding's co-owners, Ironhorse Racing Stable, made the announcement on the social media platform X Aug. 29, writing: "It is bittersweet to announce MGSW Get Smokin is being retired. Smokin touched the hearts of everyone around him."

Bred in Kentucky by Hurstland Farm and James Greene Jr., Get Smokin began his career under the care of trainer Thomas Bush, winning the 2020 Hill Prince Stakes (G2T), and the Tampa Bay Stakes (G3T) and Seek Again Stakes as a 4-year-old in 2021. Get Smokin joined Casse's barn for his 5-year-old campaign for owners Ironhorse Racing Stable, BlackRidge Stables, Saratoga Seven Racing Partners, and T-N-T Equine Holdings, but didn't find his best form until age 6 when he captured the $1.7 million Kentucky Turf Cup Stakes (G2T) at Kentucky Downs. The old warrior returned as a 7-year-old and added two more graded stakes wins to his resume in the 2024 United Nations Stakes (G2T) and Valedictory Stakes (G3).

A picture of versatility throughout his career, Get Smokin won races over distances of 7 1/2 furlongs to 1 1/2 miles on both turf and synthetic surfaces while racing from age 2-7. After making one start this year, a third-place finish in the May 31 Eclipse Stakes (G2) at Woodbine, he retires with a bankroll of $2,144,220.
