Remington Park canceled the final nine races on the Saturday, August 30 program. The first race was run for purse money only.
Remington Park was unable to televise a proper racing presentation and had no ability to export the signal to other venues. Technical issues with TV control room equipment forced the problem.
Because the field for the first race had already arrived in the saddling paddock and patiently waited for more than 30 minutes, the decision was made to allow that race to run for purse money only. All pari-mutuel wagering on the entire Remington Park was refunded.
Saltwater Taffy won the only race, a $20,000 claiming event for fillies and mare, non-winners of three career races, 3-year-olds and older, at five furlongs. The race was taken off the turf course due to excessive moisture from week-long rains in Oklahoma City.
Saltwater Taffy is owned and trained by Austin Gustafson and was ridden to victory by Freddy Manrrique. The 4-year-old filly is by Twirling Candy from the War Front mare Shore Bird. She was bred in Kentucky by W.S. Farish.
Saltwater Taffy won ahead of conditions as she was still a non-winner of two career races. It was her second career win from 11 starts. She picked up $14,427 of the $24,000 purse, running her total earnings to $86,394.
Remington Park racing is scheduled to resume Thursday through Saturday, Sept.4-6. The first race nightly is at 6 pm Central.
