Newgrange, a multiple graded stakes-winning son of Violence , will stand at Sequel New York beginning with the 2026 breeding season, the farm announced Sept. 12.

Newgrange captured graded stakes at ages 3, 4, and 5, totaling five graded wins. Bred in Kentucky by Jack Mandato and Black Rock Thoroughbreds, he is out of the unraced Empire Maker mare Bella Chianti, a full sister to stakes-placed Zimmer. His second dam is the grade 2-winning Phone Trick mare Bella Chiarra.

Initially trained by Bob Baffert for an SF Racing-led partnership, Newgrange debuted at age 2, winning a maiden special weight at Del Mar in November 2021 in his first start.

He joined the Kentucky Derby (G1) trail by winning the 2022 Sham Stakes (G3) at Santa Anita Park and the Southwest Stakes (G3) at Oaklawn Park, beginning his career a perfect 3-for-3.

"Newgrange possessed all the right physical attributes from the very beginning," bloodstock agent Donato Lanni said. "On the racetrack, he demonstrated class, toughness, and an undeniable will to win. He represents exactly the type of horse I aim to purchase—and the kind of stallion breeders should be eager to breed to."

After being sold for $325,000 at the 2022 Fasig-Tipton July Horses of Racing Age Sale, Newgrange resumed his career, successfully competing against older horses at the graded stakes level while being trained by Phil D'Amato for new owners David A. Bernsen, Little Red Feather Racing, and Rockingham Ranch.

At age 4 Newgrange won the San Pasqual Stakes (G2) and the San Antonio Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita. At age 5 repeated his victory in the San Pasqual.

Bloodstock agent Hanzly Albina of Newtownanner Stud Farm was the buying agent for Black Rock Stables when they purchased Newgrange's sire Violence and he also did the mating on Newgrange.

"When purchasing Violence, I was struck by his balance and athleticism," Albina said. "Newgrange reminds me of his sire in those same ways. He has that same raw physicality, competitive spirit, and ability to carry his speed over a distance.

"Those shared qualities give me every confidence that Newgrange will follow in Violence's footsteps and become a terrific sire. We at Newtownanner are excited to be a major shareholder in Newgrange and look forward to supporting him with a strong book of quality mares."

Newgrange won seven of 17 starts and retired with earnings of $1,014,584.

"Newgrange embodies everything we look for in a stallion prospect," Sequel's Becky Thomas said. "He was precocious at 2, dominant at 3, and proved his class and soundness competing against the best older horses.

"He's a horse that breeders in New York and beyond are going to love."

Newgrange's stud fee will be announced at a later date.
