Coolmore has announced that Prix du Jockey Club (G1) and Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (G1) winner Camille Pissarro will stand at Coolmore for 2026.
The son of the late Wootton Bassett was bred by Cn Farm out of the Pivotal mare Entreat—making him a half brother to Commonwealth Cup (G1) and Richmond Stakes (G2) scorer Golden Horde(GB)—and he sold to M.V. Magnier and White Birch Farm for $1,585,060 in Book 1 of the 2023 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.
Camille Pissarro caught the eye when winning on debut at 2 for Aidan O'Brien and the Coolmore partners at Navan that April. He finished a head second to subsequent Flying Five Stakes scorer Arizona Blaze in the Marble Hill Stakes on his next start and picked up another group 3 placing in the Anglesey Stakes. He saved his best effort for last at 2 when landing the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp, defeating Coventry Stakes victor Rashabar, as well as subsequent Irish Two Thousand Guineas and St James's Palace Stakes hero Field Of Gold.
After a prep run when a narrow second in the Gladness Stakes this March, Camille Pissarro finished a fine third in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains behind his stablemate Henri Matisse before claiming his own classic victory in the Prix du Jockey Club. He was last seen finishing fourth in the Eclipse behind another stable companion in Delacroix, where he picked up a career-ending injury.
Coolmore's David O'Loughlin said, "Camille Pissarro is a huge addition to our roster. Wootton Bassett is obviously a tremendous loss for us all, but we can be very confident that Camille Pissarro will follow in his father's footsteps. He's made very much in his father's image, arguably even better looking, according to a lot of the judges!
"Like his father, he won the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere but went on to add the renowned sire-making Prix du Jockey Club. He has a pedigree stacked with group 1 speed but managed to carry that speed over 10 1/2 furlongs."
Camille Pissarro's stud fee for 2026 will be announced at a later date.
