Gross sales at the Autumn Yearling Sale Oct. 13-14, the final yearling sale conducted by the Hidaka Horse Breeders' Association at Shizunai this year, were down slightly from 2024, totaling ¥937,600,000, approx. US$6.11 million. The average price was ¥3,084,210 (approx. US$20,094), with a median of ¥2,750,000 (approx. US$17,916).
A larger catalog was presented, with a total of 423 lots offered—84 more than last year, which may have had an influence on the decline of the clearance rate, which was 71.87%, down from 82.89% in 2024. The first day of the sale fell on Oct. 13, a bank holiday in Japan, along with the JRA race meetings at Tokyo and Kyoto, which made it hard for some trainers to attend the sale.
Hip 266, a colt by Rulership consigned by Chestnut Farm, was bought by Takashi Kurisaka for ¥12,500,000 (approx. US$81,439)—the highest price of the session. The colt is out of Sanguinea, who is a half sister to Rose Kingdom, winner of the 2010 Japan Cup (G1).
HBA conducted four yearling sales at Shizunai in 2025, with 2,118 lots sold from 2,804 offered, for a total of ¥16,326,100,000 (approx. US$106.37 million), a 2.6% decline from 2024. The average price was ¥7,708,263, (US$50,220), a 3.4% decline from 2024, with the clearance rate at 78.15%, down from 82.13% in 2024.
