With the stars of the Thoroughbred industry hitting the track for training rather than racing ahead of the Oct. 31-Nov. 1 Breeders' Cup World Championships, it comes as no surprise that there were no changes in the Top 10 of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association's Top Thoroughbred Poll.
The weekly rankings received votes from 25 national media members ahead of its unveiling Oct. 21, with the top spot still in the possession of Kentucky Derby (G1), Belmont Stakes (G1), and Travers Stakes (G1) winner Sovereignty.
However, third-ranked Mindframe did receive some added support in the form of a second voter awarding him the top spot in their personal rankings. This marked the first time since the Sept. 15 rankings that the 4-year-old son of Constitution received multiple first-place votes, and the first time since Sept. 29 that there was more than one voter who did not place Sovereignty in the No. 1 spot.
The rankings currently show the talent lined up to compete in the $7 million Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) as the top five, and seven of the top nine are pointed for the 1 1/4-mile race. In order, they rank Sovereignty, Fierceness , Mindframe, Sierra Leone , Journalism, Baeza (eighth overall), and Antiquarian (ninth).
Rebel's Romance is the lone member of the top 10 pointing to a different Breeders' Cup race as he targets a third conquering of the $5 million Breeders' Cup Turf (G1T) in four years.
