Claiborne Farm's first-crop sire Silver State sired his first black-type stakes winner Nov. 2 when his son El Consistente won the Clasico Angel Tomas Cordero Jr. Stakes by 5 lengths at Camarero Race Track. The race, rated locally as grade 2 stakes in Puerto Rico, is the colt's third win from four starts for owner Denian Stable.
Forever Spring Farm bred El Consistente out of the Munnings daughter Behind the Lines, who is a half sister to grade 1-placed stakes winner Hidden Message. The colt's second dam is stakes winner Secret Charm.
Silver State is a grade 1-winning son of Hard Spun who captured the 2021 Metropolitan Handicap (G1) and ran third in that year's Whitney Stakes (G1). He also won the 2021 Oaklawn Handicap (G2), Essex Handicap, and Fifth Season Stakes, all at Oaklawn Park. Silver State retired with a 7-3-2 record from 14 career starts and earned $1,933,094.
Silver State is out of the grade 3-placed stakes winner Supreme (Empire Maker) and out of the immediate family of 2001 Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Monarchos. A top 12 freshman sire by progeny earnings, Silver State also has been represented this year by stakes-placed winner Miss Call. He will stand next year for $7,500.
