Mr. A. P., who announced his arrival as one worth watching in the upcoming 3-year-old season, will be out of action until March, effectively taking him off the Kentucky Derby (G1) trail.

The son of American Pharoah sustained an undisclosed injury, which was first reported by the Daily Racing Form.

Trainer Vladimir Cerin declined to reveal the injury but said it is "nothing major. He'll have a full recovery."

"He had a little setback, and he should be ready by the end of March," Cerin told BloodHorse.

The injury came about during training after finishing a length back of presumptive champion 2-year-old Ted Noffey in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) at Del Mar Oct. 31.

Cernin said that Mr. A.P. is in good spirits despite the injury.

"He's eating like a pig, and he's at the barn ... he just needed a little break," the trainer said.

The ridgling was claimed for $150,000 by Holly and David Wilson after he finished second in his debut July 31 at Del Mar. He added another runner-up effort at Del Mar before breaking his maiden at Santa Anita Park

Mr. A. P. then acquitted himself well at the Breeders' Cup as he raced off the lead but was held off late by Ted Noffey.

Bred by Pollock Farms, Mr. A. P. is 1-3-0 from four starts with $403,000 in earnings. His sire, American Pharoah, will stand at Shizunai Stallion Station in Japan in 2026.
