Tumbarumba became the all-time highest earning Louisiana-bred racehorse Feb. 14 after finishing third in the $20 million Saudi Cup (G1) at King Abdulaziz Racecourse, the world's richest race. The 6-year-old gelding's earnings climbed to $3,210,433, surpassing the late Free Like a Girl. Tumbarumba competed in a stellar international field of 13, finishing only behind Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) winner Forever Young and Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1) winner Nysos.
Bred by Coteau Grove Farms in Sunset, La., Tumbarumba is by Oscar Performance out of Naive Enough, a winning Street Sense mare.
Purchased as a $30,000 yearling from the 2021 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Fall Yearling Sale by trainer Brian Lynch, Tumbarumba broke his maiden at Churchill Downs in his second start as a juvenile. He then began to carry the colors of Amerman Racing while still trained by Lynch with a runner-up finish in the $100,000 Louisiana Juvenile at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots to cap his juvenile campaign.
Tumbarumba continued his rise with dirt sprint wins at Keeneland and Churchill Downs, and a victory in the $192,000 Ellis Park Derby in 2023. His first graded stakes win came in the $150,000 Fred W. Hooper Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park in January 2024. He then placed in two more graded stakes for Amerman before being sold privately to international powerhouse Wathnan Racing prior to being runner-up in the 2024 Hanshin Stakes at Churchill Downs. He finished out the season with a pair of grade 3 placings and a fourth in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1) at Del Mar.
In 2025, Tumbarumba captured the R. A. Cowboy Jones Stakes at Ellis Park and the $400,000 Ack Ack Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs. He wrapped up his campaign with another fourth-place finish in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile. He then left Lynch's care to spend the winter based in the Middle East with trainer Al Jehani Hamad. Prior to his third-place finish in the Saudi Cup, Tumbarumba was second in the Al Maktoum Challenge (G1) at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai.
Coteau Grove Farms purchased Naive Enough for $95,000 at the 2017 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale. Her Epicenter filly of 2024 was the highest priced yearling by that stallion in 2025. Naive Enough is due to foal a full sibling to Tumbarumba this year.
