A classy sprinter since he burst on the racing scene as a juvenile, 6-year-old Damon's Mound pursues a seventh stakes victory in his 19th career race in the Feb. 21 Gulfstream Park Sprint.
Having won the Bold Ruler Stakes (G3) last fall at Aqueduct Racetrack, Damon's Mount, a near-millionaire, is the 123-pound starting highweight in the 6-furlong, $125,000 race at Gulfstream Park.
Class-dropping runners Wound Up, third in the Dec. 27 Mr. Prospector Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream, and Con Compania, cutting back from a route to a sprint after fading to sixth behind Skippylongstocking in the Dec. 20 Harlan's Holiday Stakes (G3), head the opposition in the eight-horse field.
Damon's Mound, a homebred 6-year-old son of Girvin for owners Michele and Cliff Love, is riding a two-race win streak, having won the Sunshine Sprint Stakes for Florida-breds last month at Gulfstream in a follow-up to his 2025 Bold Ruler victory. He also won the Sunshine Sprint in 2025.

His most prestigious victories came in the 2022 Saratoga Special Stakes (G2) and 2023 Gallant Bob Stakes (G2). Those black-type victories, as well as another stakes triumph in the 2023 Robert Hilton Memorial Stakes, came with his prior trainer Michelle Lovell.
Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott has raced Damon's Mound since last winter. Regular jockey Junior Alvarado rides the tactical runner, who sped 6 furlongs in 1:09.29 in taking the Jan. 17 Sunshine Sprint by 2 1/2 lengths.
