The Jockey Club of Canada is pleased to announce that chief steward Doug Anderson will be recognized with a Special Sovereign Award during the 51st Annual Sovereign Awards ceremony.
Selected unanimously by the Jockey Club of Canada's Stewards, the Special Sovereign Award recognizes a particular achievement within a given year. The honor is being bestowed upon Doug for his unwavering dedication to thoroughbred racing, breeding, and aftercare in Canada and to honoring the mission of The Jockey Club of Canada.
Anderson has been involved in the Thoroughbred racing industry in Canada for many years, including as an owner of Sovereign Award winners A Bit o' Gold and Millie Girl with his wife Rita Eskudt. He breeds a small band of mares in Ontario each year and races as co-owner with Rita under the name Braconcrest Inc., solely and in partnership. Anderson sits on the board of the CTHS (Ontario Division) and avidly supports Thoroughbred retirement.
