Longtime Thoroughbred owner Peter Brant has moved approximately 75% of the horses he had with trainer Chad Brown to other trainers, according to the Daily Racing Form.
Contributing to the move was Brown's decision to race Gezora in the May 1 Modesty Stakes (G3T) at Churchill Downs.
The winner of last year's Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1T), Gezora made her 2026 debut in the Modesty and finished second. The filly gave up 5 pounds to the field, including the winner Kathynmarissa, another Brown trainee.
Brant told DRF that losing the Modesty was not the breaking point, but he wasn't happy with Gezora running in that race.
"I don't want to take a horse that's won great classic races around the world, including the Breeders' Cup and then start picking spots where I'm spotting weight to very competitive horses in their first start of the year," Brant told DRF. "Chad knows very well how I feel about the weight and it's not that important to him. He doesn't really believe it affects horses that much and I do."
Brant said the horses he is moving from Brown's stable are going to Bill Mott, Riley Mott, and Miguel Clement. Gezora is now with Bill Mott.
Brown has won 25 grade 1 races with horses solely owned by Brant. But this move is not the end of their relationship.
"We've won a ton of grade 1s together and I'm very confident we haven't won our last one together," Brown told DRF.
