Bob Baffert-trained Mizumi, an impressive winner in her debut May 2, comes into the June 13 Summertime Oaks (G3) at Santa Anita Park looking to go 2-for-2 to start her career.
A 1 1/2-length winner May 2, the 3-year-old daughter of Justify will be making her stakes debut for owner Baoma Corp. She is the 4-5 morning-line favorite.
Testing her will be Marjoram, who is coming off an exciting victory in the Senorita Stakes (G3T) at the Arcadia, Calif., track. The Quality Road filly had a slow start on the occasion but battled back, as jockey Juan Hernandez swung her four wide in the stretch and outclassed a field of 10 for a head win. She returns to dirt, where she won her only attempt on the surface.
Emisael Jaramillo will be in the irons Saturday for the Juddmonte homebred as Hernandez will ride the favored Mizumi.
Marjoram is 2-0-0 from three career starts.
Also in the field is Bank Shot, who has seven starts to her résumé, including landing on the board in a pair of graded stakes.
By millionaire and three-time grade 1 winner Game Winner, Bank Shot stalked the eventual winner in the Santa Ysabel Stakes (G3) but had to settle for a 1 3/4-length defeat as the runner-up. Then, last time out, she was a distant third in the Santa Anita Oaks (G2) for owner WSS Racing.
