Since being added as a regular feature, BloodHorse Daily's Maiden Watch has enjoyed a strong track record of identifying future standout horses—think dual classic winner Golden Tempo—off of their initial victories.
BloodHorse Daily will continue to profile the stars of tomorrow in the column that typically runs each Wednesday but we also wanted to provide a single place for readers to review the accomplishments of profiled horses while also highlighting horses to watch going forward. A new Maiden Watch landing page at BloodHorse.com includes a convenient, updated table that lists our Hot Prospect maiden winners with their breeding, when and where they scored their maiden win, qualifiers that helped indicate future potential, and updated accomplishments.
The landing page, which resides under the racing tab at BloodHorse.com, also includes a convenient list of recent Maiden Watch Hot Prospect winners as well as all of our previous stories.
What are Hot Prospects? Hot Prospects are the 2-year-old and 3-year-old maiden race winners our editors consider the strongest stakes candidates from the Maiden Watch qualifying pool. Maiden Watch tracks lightly raced maidens who either sold for more than $500,000 at public auction, have a sibling that is a graded or group winner, or have a dam that is a graded or group winner. These qualifications have shown strong potential for identifying future stakes performers.
BH Daily notes such qualifying horses in a table each week but goes further by writing about horses who impressed us most in our Maiden Watch column. We are dubbing the horses profiled in the column "Maiden Watch Hot Prospects," or simply "Hot Prospects."
We hope you enjoy the new landing page. We are planning more fun things around BloodHorse Maiden Watch in the weeks ahead.
