Colonial Downs has canceled racing for July 4, the track announced on social media. Like large portions of the eastern half of the country, Virginia has been hit by sweltering heat this week.
The two restricted stakes races that had been scheduled—the Miss Disco Stakes and the Star de Naskra Stakes—will be used July 11, the track noted. Colonial will add a card July 13. Saturday's canceled races will be posted as extras.
Scheduled first post time for July 5 and July 6 is 10:45 a.m. ET—a move intended to avoid the highest afternoon temperatures.
