Dual surface graded stakes winner Mo Town has been purchased by the Turkish Jockey Club, the organization announced July 27, along with notifying breeders it had also acquired group 1 winner Twain.
Mo Town, a 12-year-old son of Uncle Mo, had been standing at Ashford Stud near Versailles, Ky., since 2019, while Twain is a Coolmore Stud homebred and 4-year-old son of the late prominent sire Wootton Bassett (GB).
As a racehorse, Mo Town won the Remsen Stakes (G2) at 2 on Aqueduct Racetrack's main track for trainer Anthony Dutrow's Team D Racing Partnerships. By the fall of 2016, the ownership group included longtime partners and Coolmore associates Susan Magnier, Michael Tabor, and Derrick Smith along with Team D. At 3, Mo Town won the Hollywood Derby (G1T) on the turf at Del Mar. He was retired with a 4-1-2 record from 10 starts and earned $519,600.
As a stallion, Mo Town has sired 292 winners that include 20 black-type stakes winners, as of July 27. His top performers to date include seven graded/group stakes winners: Play the Music, 2024's Canadian champion female sprinter; millionaire and three-time graded stakes winner Mystic Lake; Key of Life; dual course-record-setter Doncho; Classic Mo Town; Accidental Hero; and Wentrue in Chile, who also ran second in the 2024 El Derby (G1). Mo Town's runners have earned more than $24 million so far.
Mo Town is out of the Bernardini winner Grazie Mille, who is also the dam of graded-placed stakes winner Justique (Justify ) and stakes-placed winner Champagne Lady (Uncle Mo). Mo Town's second dam is grade 1-placed, grade 3 winner Molto Vita.
Magnier, Smith, and Tabor also raced Twain, who was bred by Coolmore out of the Montjeu group stakes winner Wading, who also is the dam of multiple grade/group 1-placed graded stakes winner Just Wonderful (Dansili). Twain's second dam Cherry Hinton is a half sister to 2009 European Horse of the Year Sea The Stars (IRE). At 2, Twain won the Criterium International Stakes (G1) at Saint-Cloud Racecourse.
