Ultimate Love Poised to Rebound in Lake George

Amberglen gets a class test after defeating first-level allowance rivals.

Sunny skies should bring drying-out course conditions following heavy midweek rain when the $225,000 Lake George Stakes (G3T) is contested Aug. 1 at Saratoga Race Course.

Many of the nine 3-year-old fillies entered for the 1 1/16-mile grass test are unproven over anything but firm ground, including class-rising favorite Amberglen. With her Irish bloodlines, however, she appears well suited to handle yielding or good going. Similarly, Chelsea Flower Stakes winner Deep Learning has raced exclusively on firm turf in all four of her starts.

Lion Lake and Time to Dream also have raced mostly on dry courses, though each has one start on good turf. Lion Lake finished third, while Time to Dream was runner-up in separate starts.

Fillies are moving all up and down the class ladder in Saturday's race. Repole Stable's Time to Dream, trained by Todd Pletcher, and Live Oak Plantation's homebred Ultimate Love, conditioned by Mike Trombetta, both receive class relief after finishing fifth and ninth, respectively, in the July 4 Belmont Oaks (G1T) at Saratoga.

Pointing to a rough trip experienced by Ultimate Love, Trombetta said, "I'm hoping I can just draw a line through that race and move on."

The Curlin  filly had delivered either victories or competitive performances in her five previous starts, one of which resulted in a black-type win in the Selima Stakes last fall.

The Lake George includes two main-track-only entries, Answered Prayers and Hidden Rose.
