Whitney Stakes (G1) winner Sovereignty has been installed as the 4-1 favorite in the first of two future wagers on this year's $7 million Breeders' Cup Classic (G1). The first Longines Breeders' Cup Classic Future Wager will open at noon ET Aug. 28 and will close at 6 p.m. Aug. 30. The second Breeders' Cup Classic Future Wager will be offered starting at noon Sept. 25 and will end at 6 p.m. Sept. 27.
The Breeders' Cup Classic Future Wager is a $2 minimum bet and is a win wager only. It will enable fans to bet on up to 24 wagering interests for the Breeders' Cup Classic well in advance of the Oct. 31 race date. Odds on horses in the future pools typically provide more value to horseplayers than those available on race day. This year's Breeders' Cup Classic will be run Oct. 31 at Keeneland in Lexington during the 43rd Breeders' Cup World Championships.
Both future bet pools will consist of a maximum of 23 unique wagering interests and one "All Other Starters" wager for a total of 24 betting interests. "All Other Starters" includes any Thoroughbreds entered in the Breeders' Cup Classic other than the pool's individual horses.
Betting on all Breeders' Cup future wagers will be offered via Breeders' Cup partner FanDuel and other advanced-deposit wagering sites, racetracks, casinos, simulcast centers, and off-track betting sites.
Listed just behind Sovereignty (No. 21) in the opening line at 5-1 is Japanese superstar and defending Breeders' Cup Classic winner Forever Young (6), who captured the Saudi Cup (G1) earlier this year. Knightsbridge (11), winner of the Pacific Classic Stakes (G1), is next at 6-1, followed by "All Other Starters That Are Not Listed" (24) at 8-1. Magnitude (13), who won the Dubai World Cup (G1) and Stephen Foster Stakes (G1), is next at 10-1. Kentucky Derby (G1) and Belmont Stakes (G1) winner Golden Tempo (8) is listed at 12-1, as is Jim Dandy Stakes (G2) winner Renegade (17), runner-up in the Kentucky Derby and third in the Belmont Stakes.
