The team at Lane's End Farm likely felt like it was a go for launch with the first crop of foals by 2022 Horse of the Year Flightline entering the season and, fittingly enough, Go for Launch happened to be the name of his first stakes winner.
That milestone was achieved Aug. 26 at Saratoga Race Course, as Blue Heaven Farm's 2-year-old homebred filly scored impressively in the $200,000 Bolton Landing Stakes, a listed 5 1/2-furlong sprint on the Mellon turf course.
Go for Launch's pedigree is regal as she is out of 2019 Canadian Horse of the Year and three-time Canadian champion turf female Starship Jubilee. Still, stakes success at this short of a distance came as a surprise to the bettors given both parents' major career accomplishments came over longer distances. The filly was let go at 10-1.
Luckily for trainer Kevin Attard, who also trained Starship Jubilee for owners Bonnie Baskin and Adam Corndorf's Blue Heaven Farm, their opinion did not matter at all as her talent shined through to win with authority by 2 1/4 lengths.
"Go for Launch showed talent from the get-go," Attard's son and assistant Joshua said in the winner's circle. "She'll get better with more distance as well. ... She's bred to run longer, but even the way she trains in the morning, she just keeps going and going."
The bay filly took her debut July 25 at Woodbine in gate-to-wire fashion traveling 5 furlongs. On Wednesday, jockey Pietro Moran kept her settled on the rail behind the leaders, pointed to the clear entering the stretch, and kicked away to win in 1:02.45 and pay $22.06. Allura finished second and Extravaganzoo was third.
"It was perfect," Moran said of the trip. "She was a little sharper today, but when she broke, I just let her be. There was a lot of speed on paper, once the horse (Allura) got in front of her, she covered up nice, relaxed and, when I asked her, she kicked on pretty good."
The victory was a first at Saratoga for Moran, who was named Eclipse champion apprentice jockey in 2025. Despite losing his apprenticeship at the start of the year, he's continued his success at Woodbine with a meet-leading 77 wins.
"It's just amazing. Saratoga's the best, and just to win a race here is unbelievable," Moran said. "I had a decent winter in Florida for the month I rode there and then went back home to Woodbine and having a great year there as well. I'm getting a lot of opportunities to ride good horses, and that's what it takes. Just thankful for all the opportunities I get."
Flightline stood the 2026 season at Lane's End for a $125,000 fee. His talent on the racetrack left racegoers in awe as he effortlessly took down the 2021 Malibu Stakes (G1), 2022 Metropolitan Handicap (G1), 2022 Pacific Classic Stakes (G1), and 2022 Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) en route to a perfect 6-for-6 career.
