The New York Racing Association announced Sept. 25 that the Sept. 26-27 live racing programs at Belmont Park have been canceled because of a powerful nor'easter forecast to bring extremely high winds and heavy rain to Long Island, N.Y., beginning Friday evening and continuing throughout the weekend.
The National Weather Service has placed Long Island under a wind advisory for Saturday and Sunday with current forecasts calling for sustained high winds and gusts exceeding 50 mph.
Belmont Park will be closed to the public this weekend, Sept. 26-27.
- Tickets and prepaid parking purchased directly through Ticketmaster, FEVO, or the NYRA Sales Team (844-NYRA-TIX) are eligible for a refund or ticket credit.
- Tickets purchased through third-party vendors are not eligible for refunds from NYRA. Guests must contact the original vendor directly.
All ticketholders will be contacted by the NYRA sales team via email with additional information on refunds or exchanges.
NYRA has received approval from the New York State Gaming Commission to conduct live racing Sept. 30 and Oct. 7. In conjunction with previously announced makeup days, NYRA will now conduct Wednesday-Sunday racing throughout October.
The six graded stakes scheduled for Saturday and Sunday will be brought back Oct. 1.
They include the $500,000 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Stakes (G1T); $500,000 Flower Bowl Stakes (G2T), a Breeders' Cup Challenge Series: Win and You're In race for the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1T); $250,000 Vosburgh Stakes (G3), a Challenge Series race for the Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1); $250,000 Gallant Bloom Stakes (G2); $200,000 Belmont Turf Sprint Stakes (G3T); and $200,000 Winter Memories Stakes (G3T).
The added card for Sept. 30 will offer overnight races originally scheduled for Sept. 26-27.
Entries for both Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 will be taken Friday.
Additionally, the $175,000 Joseph A. Gimma Stakes, originally scheduled for Oct. 1, will be moved to Oct. 2 with entries to be taken Sept. 26.
