A total of 22 black-type fillies and mares, including the already announced dam of group 1 winner Saffron Beach, Falling Petals, will feature in the inaugural Chicquita Session at the Goffs November Breeding Stock Sale.
The select session, named in honor of the classic-winning filly Chicquita, who sold at Goffs for a world-record €6 million in 2013, will take place on the opening day of the sale Nov. 20. A total of 350 lots will be offered across the two-day sale, with a second session the following day.
Falling Petals, consigned by Ballylinch Stud, has produced five winners, led by dual group 1 winner Saffron Beach. She has a 2-year-old filly, a yearling colt, and a filly foal by New Bay, and is in foal to champion sire Night of Thunder. Her yearlings have sold for up to €1.65 million at the Orby Sale.
Group 3 winner Magny Cours will also come under the hammer during the Chicquita session. Consigned by Daniel McLoughlin Racing, she won the Fairy Bridge Stakes (G3) before finishing second to subsequent multiple group 1 winner True Love in the Priory Belle Stakes (G3) this year. By Awtaad and out of listed-placed Choisir mare Ares Choix, she is a half sister to Italian One Thousand Guinea (G3) winner Beenham.
Baroda Stud will offer another group 3 winner in the shape of Copacabana Sands. The daughter of Sands Of Mali enjoyed a productive campaign at 3, winning the listed Owenstown Stud Stakes and Ballycorus Stakes (G3). She is out of Buttonhole, a daughter of Montjeu and champion Red Camellia, making her a half sister to Fillies' Mile Stakes (G1) winner Red Bloom.
Other entries include Strait Power, a half sister to champion sprinter Slade Power, who has produced six winners from as many runners. Her progeny includes Night In Vegas, a three-time valuable sales race winner this season, who finished third in the Richmond Stakes (G2). Consigned by Mountarmstrong Stud, she will be offered in foal to first-season sire Naval Crown.
The Castlebridge consignment will offer Goldana, a three-time black-type winner who recorded seven further stakes placings, including a second in the Lanwades Stud Stakes (G2). A half sister to United States grade 1 winner Glorious Empire, she is in foal to new sire Delacroix. Castlebridge's draft will also include Tea Rose, a Frankel daughter of dual group 1-winning sprinter Marsha, who is in foal for the first time to Prix du Jockey Club (G1) winner Camille Pissarro, as well as Andromeda, a sister to Irish One Thousand Guineas (G1) winner Peaceful, who she is in foal to Starspangledbanner.
Another Castlebridge entry is Navassa Island, who finished a neck second to Porta Fortuna in the Fillies' Sprint Stakes (G3) on her debut at 2 before signing off her racing career with a wide-margin victory in the listed Cork Stakes. She is a half sister to Cheveley Park Stakes (G1) winner Lezoo.
Goffs group chief executive Henry Beeby said: "The Chicquita Session has been met with great enthusiasm by vendors, and we are delighted to present a high-class collection of fillies and mares for its inaugural year, each one of which meets the very clear criteria laid down when the concept was announced.
"They feature among a broader catalog that is full of the quality and group 1 potential always associated with Goffs November Breeding Stock Sale and should hold huge appeal to a global audience of buyers."
