As much as the fields for the both the Travers Stakes (G1) and the Pacific Classic (G1) came into a sharper focus July 26, the connections of Journalism say it will be "a few more weeks" before plans for the Preakness Stakes (G1) and Haskell Stakes- (G1) winning 3-year-old are finalized.

"We are going to take all the time to make this decision. We're in no rush to make any decision on where he runs next. We've let him tell us how to dictate his campaign and we will not change now," Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners president Aron Wellman, managing partner for the ownership group, said on July 27. "Everything is a possibility."

With Journalism currently stabled at Del Mar, the easier of those options would be staying home and facing older horses in the Aug. 30 Pacific Classic (G1). If the connections opt for a fifth race this year 3,000 miles from home and a third meeting with Kentucky Derby (G1) and Belmont Stakes (G1) winner Sovereignty, the Aug. 23 Travers Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course would come into play.

Another option would be training up to the Nov. 1 Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) at Del Mar.

Horses who will likely be favored in both the Travers and Pacific Classic were showcased Saturday as Sovereignty won the Jim Dandy Stakes (G2) at Saratoga while Nysos captured the San Diego Handicap (G2) at Del Mar.

"They are both exceptional horses," Wellman said about Saturday's two winners. "But our decision will not be based on our competition. It's what Journalism tells us."
